What does fatherhood look like when your parents worked hard to keep you alive, but you still grew up feeling their absence?
In this episode of the *4 Fit Fatherhood Podcast*, Rod Richard sits down with *Paul Lamar Hunter*, author of _No Love, No Charity: The Success of the 19th Child_. Paul was born the 19th of 21 children. He is a father of four adult children, a grandfather, and the first of the 21 children in his family to earn a college degree.
Paul shares stories that sound almost impossible: growing up in an 18-bedroom home his parents bought for one dollar, losing his father before his eighth birthday, and helping his mother run a homeless shelter while other kids attended games and school activities.
He also speaks honestly about the difference between provision and presence. Paul explains why he saved PTO for field trips, coached his children's teams, helped with homework, and kept his phone open to his adult children at any hour.
Rod and Paul discuss:
* Growing up as the 19th of 21 children
* The impact of a father who worked 16-hour days
* The blessing and cost of serving people outside the home
* How older siblings filled the parenting gap
* Becoming a present father after feeling unseen as a child
* Returning to college and graduating at age 42
* Telling painful family truths without living in anger
* Therapy, faith, forgiveness, education, and generational wealth
* Why a mentor can help a man move beyond his past
This is a conversation about honoring your parents, telling the truth about what hurt, and choosing what your children will experience differently.
